Federated Learning Workshop 2021 in Gather.Town
Thank you for joining us for the Federated Learning Workshop 2021. We are using a platform called Gather.Town, which aims to recreate the conference networking experience in a virtual environment. Here are instructions on how to get the most out of this event.
1. Using Chrome or Firefox, click below to enter the space:
Day 1 (Monday, November 8th: 12:00PM - 1:00PM PT)
Day 2 (Tuesday, November 9th: 12:00PM - 1:00PM PT)
2. Enter the password: Federated2021
3. Select the character avatar you want to enter the space with and approve gather.town use of your computer’s microphone and camera
4. Enter your name
5. You will see your name above your avatar, which you can use to move around the space using the arrow on your keyboard (can change the avatar’s character and appearance if you wish by clicking on your avatar at the bottom of your screen (see picture below)
- Your microphone and video will automatically start sharing if you move within close proximity of another attendee’s avatar
- If you wish to locate a specific individual, you can search for them in the search bar
6. On the platform, you can see and hear the people around your avatar. To initiate a private conversation, you can navigate to a “Private space,” indicated by a rug. See photo above - these areas will trigger the dialogue, “you have entered a private space,” at the bottom of your screen. Private space will vary in sizes from groups of 2-5
7. When you enter the environment you will see a “Help desk”. A member from the team will be there to answer questions.
8. Throughout the environment you will find seating areas named “casual networking”. This will be a great chance to socialize and meet others who want to network.
