If you dream of working for one of the best technology companies in Indonesia, Bangkit is for you! Bangkit is a Google-led academy developed in collaboration with Gojek, Tokopedia, and Traveloka, designed to produce high-calibre, technical talent for world-class, Indonesian technology companies and startups. This six-month program is highly selective with only 300 places available for applicants from all over Indonesia.

The Bangkit curriculum will be centered around machine learning and be delivered through a mixture of online and offline modules with workshops being held in four cities (Jakarta, Bandung, Denpasar, Yogyakarta) over seven weekends between January 25, 2020 and June 14, 2020.

Why

You will learn from and be mentored by subject matter experts from Google, Gojek, Tokopedia, Traveloka, among others. The curriculum is designed for programmers who would like to take their skills to the next level and will span disciplines including maths for machine learning, Python programming and machine learning fundamentals. Participants will also learn essential skills for successful careers in leading technology companies, such as design thinking methodology, leadership, communication, and presentation skills.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be invited to a graduation event where you will have the opportunity to showcase your talent to prospective employers from many of Indonesia’s leading technology companies and have the opportunity to interview with these companies for immediate career opportunities. 

Who

This program is open to all Indonesians, however due to the limited number of places, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Indonesian citizen
  • Minimum 18 years old by May 2020
  • Ability to commit to complete all course modules (self-paced learning), which includes a minimum of 160 hours of online learning.
  • Ability to commit to attend all weekend workshops (seven in total) at one of the four cities at your own expense.
  • Proficiency with the required Math and Programming skills*.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in written and spoken English.
  • Have a laptop with minimum specification*.

How

The application process consists of two parts:

  1. You must submit an application form including your contact details, education background, work experiences, and motivation statement.
  2. After submission of the above, you will have to demonstrate proficiency with the required Maths and Programming skills by answering a few test questions, and completing some recorded video interviews.

Program details

Number of hours (online and offline)

Bangkit educational content will be centered around machine learning and be delivered through a mixture of online and offline modules with workshops being held in four cities (Jakarta, Bandung, Denpasar, Yogyakarta) over seven weekends.

Admission will be contingent upon the applicant's ability to commit to the requisite online and offline learning path, which includes a minimum of 160 hours of online learning and seven 2-day weekend workshops over six months. 

Laptop/minimum requirements

We require that all participants must use or bring their own laptop to be able to complete all exercises. The minimum specifications for the laptop are:

  • RAM min. 2GB
  • OS: Chrome OS, Linux, Windows 7/8/10, MAC OS X
  • Processor: 32/64-bit
  • Web browser: Google Chrome
  • Installed professional text editor (e.g.: VS Code, NotePad++, Sublime Text, Atom) 

Prerequisite math skills

Machine learning is a Math heavy discipline. You need to understand basic math concepts to modify ML models or build new ones from scratch. Therefore it’s required for candidates to have already learned math from school/university/online on these topics: algebra, linear algebra, trigonometry, statistics, and calculus.

Prerequisite coding skills

Building Machine Learning models requires coding in order to do the data preparation, parameter tuning, parsing results, and drawing into chart. We require the participants to have experience doing IT projects or products on any programming language or platform.

Frequently Asked Questions 

Bangkit is an education program aimed at programmers who would like to learn the fundamentals of machine learning and enhance their potential employability for leading technology companies in Indonesia and globally. It is a blended (online and offline) curriculum that spans six months including seven weekend workshops wherein participation is mandatory.

There is no registration cost for Bangkit however transportation to/from the workshops is at participant's expense. A limited number of stipends are available for selected candidates who require financial assistance to cover transportation costs. 

Applications are open from 20 November, 2019. Selected participants will be invited to join the program, which will run from 20 January, 2020 - 14 June, 2020.

*A limited number of need-based grants are available to assist with transportation and incidental costs.

You can submit an application form here where you will then be asked to complete Q&A  section for math and programming understanding, followed by a section where you will be asked to answer 3 video interview questions. 

After submitting the application form, you will be asked a few questions in video interview format (in English) at a maximum of 10 minutes duration. Additionally, you will be asked a few questions about math and programming at a maximum of 60 minutes duration.
