United Blood Donation
Project introduction
Unified Blood Donation App connects new and current blood donors across a given area, saving time by redefining the appointment process with the introduction of QuickID, a QR code based data retrieval system. aggregating various blood banks together, and encouraging donors to be consistent by gamifying their experience and showing their impact to current crises and areas of need.
Issue/Inspiration
Looking at how worldwide community health services struggled to keep blood storages even during times of relative calm, we knew there was a need for more donors but the average person had little to no at hand resource to connect them with blood donation centers in real-time.
What it does
UBD utilizes a QR code known as the users QuickID to streamline the appointment process and quickly connect an available donor with a organization in immediate need.
How did your project evolve with the support of the COVID-19 hackathon fund by Google Cloud?
We acquired fullstack developers to our team who are excited to use the Google Cloud to further develop the UBD app.
How you built it
We prototyped in Adobe XD and then started to make the android app using Android Studio using Kotlin. However, that direction has been changed and the app is being developed under Flutter and Firebase.
Challenges you ran into
Find coders to add to the team to help out last minute.
Accomplishments you are proud of
The design, potential for impact and social good! What you learned: Have backup, always have backup.
What’s next for your project
We’re looking forward to completing the backend development and getting our app funded and launched.
What Google Cloud products did you use to build your project?
Flutter, Firebase, Google Cloud Storage, other products tbd.
