5:00pm - 7:00pm, 14th March 2019 - Keep on Turning with the Blind Woodturner

Description:

Join Chris Fisher, the Blind Woodturner.

Hear how he lost his sight and went on to become the UK's first professional blind woodturner.

About this Event

Chris Fisher woke up one morning in 2008 to blurred vision. Four weeks later he was completely blind. He will be sharing the story of how he came to terms with his sight loss, the challenges he faced and how a drive in a car with a charity called Speed of Sight was a turning point. Because he wanted a vampire stake, Chris decided to take up woodturning and, after listening to YouTube videos for 600 hours, he bought his first lathe and started turning. Five years later Chris is now in demand as a speaker and woodturning demonstrator, travelling throughout the UK. His mission is to inspire and motivate people, and show both disabled and able bodied people what is possible to achieve with determination and self-belief. Come along and hear Chris' inspirational story for yourself.

12:00pm - 6:00pm, 23rd March 2019 - The Vision Board Brunch Series - I am Remarkable with Google

Description:

In Partnership with Google, Sovereign Heights Events, Tomtam Cakes, MadamOri Skincare and MJ Creations present to you another event to top you up with awesomeness and knowledge.

#IamRemarkable strives to empower women and underrepresented groups to speak openly about their accomplishments in the workplace and beyond, thereby breaking modesty norms and glass ceilings.

This conversation is designed specifically for those that identify themselves as female and to expose the many struggles women face in the workplace. The aim is for all participants to leave the workshop more sensitive to the difficulties and to be supportive of other people's self promotion efforts, regardless of gender, sexuality, ethnicity etc.

There are only 50 places available, so the places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. Due to the sensitive topics discussed during the workshop we will not allow any late comers into the session as it will cause too many distractions, so please ensure you arrive on time. We would also be doing a follow up session on our visions, goals and strategies that we set from our first Vision Board Brunch and breaking them down these into manageable chunks so we can each ensure we follow through with our desires. For further information please contact start.smart@peopleplus.co.uk
