Harise Stein MD is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in the Ob/Gyn dept. at Stanford Medical Center. She is founder and co-chair of the Stanford Family Abuse Prevention Council, is a member of the Packard Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Committee, and has served for seven years as a county commissioner and Chair of the Medical Subcommittee of the Santa Clara County Domestic Violence Council.

Having recognized the impact of abuse on women’s well-being as well as on the foundation of family health, she is a frequent speaker/educator for medical and community groups on various aspects of the intersection between abuse and health. For the past 10 years she has authored a monthly abuse research summary (abuseresearch.info) that goes out internationally to over 680 clinicians, advocates, researchers and policy makers.

In addition, she has had an active interest in the effects of secondary trauma on healthcare and community personnel. Besides being the Director of the Stanford Physician Peer Support program, she has been an invited speaker to numerous medical and community groups, including medical faculty and trainees, visiting nurses, domestic violence advocacy organizations, judges and lawyers, mental health counselors, and victim-witness assistance programs on the topics of burnout, empathy fatigue, resilience and the importance of self-care. Duane T. Bowers, LPC

Duane T. Bowers is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Educator in private practice, and author. As a therapist Duane’s specialty is working with survivors of trauma, child exploitation and trafficking which includes providing support to families of abducted, missing, exploited, trafficked and murdered victims as well as professional staff working directly in the field, in the US and Canada. He is a principle in Project SafeGuard which provides support for the staff of the Exploited Child Division of National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which is responsible for analyzing child pornography on the internet to assist law enforcement. Duane also provides staff support to the NCMEC Child Sex Trafficking Team. In addition, Duane provides wellness support to the staff of the Trust and Safety Division of Tumblr, Flickr and Yahoo, the Maryland State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Taskforce, the Alexandria City Police Investigators, International Justice Mission (IJM) field and headquarters staff, Montgomery County Child Welfare Services and the Baltimore County CAC. In Saskatchewan province in Canada, Duane works through Caring Hearts providing education and assisting in creating programs focused on trauma informed care, first responder trauma, and supporting families of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls. He also serves as a consultant to the Canadian Centre for Child Protection in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada.

As an educator, Duane teaches seminars nationally, internationally and regionally on trauma informed care, support for victims and families and workers in the field of sexual exploitation and trafficking, as well as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and traumatic loss. He has served as an Adjunct Professor of Counseling at Trinity College in Washington DC, and continues to be an invited guest lecturer for national conferences, as well as for graduate and undergraduate classes of various colleges and universities.

Kasley Killam is a master's candidate at the Harvard School of Public Health and a World Economic Forum Global Shaper focused on creating solutions for the loneliness epidemic and improving social health at individual, community, and population levels. Previously, she has led teams, conducted research, created experiences, and built products around the theme of cultivating meaningful human connection. These include studying positive psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, launching an award-winning app to promote empathy and compassion, and developing an intergenerational friendship workshop. Kasley is a contributing writer to Scientific American and other publications and a board member for the Community Living Campaign, a nonprofit addressing isolation and other barriers associated with aging and disability.
