About the City
Often called the Rome of the East, Goa is one of the smallest states in India, with two districts—North Goa and South Goa. The most commonly spoken languages here are Konkani, Hindi, English and a dialect of Portuguese, thanks to a 450-year Portugal reign in the region. Goa began gaining popularity among tourists because of the hippie culture that took shape and mushroomed there in the ’70s.

Never miss the food
With an array of options including south Indian, north Indian, traditional Goan, Continental and many other world cuisines, Goa is just as much a haven for vegetarians as it is for non-vegetarian foodies. But when in Goa, we strongly recommend that you try the traditional Goan flavours of foods cooked on clay pot on firewood. Then, do not miss its fresh seafood. You may even request cooks at The Leela Goa to recreate specials like mackerel reacheado, mushroom xacuti, sorportel, fish curry and rice or crab xecxeca. End your Goan meal with the traditional dessert of the region called bebinca.
