Gather Town Instructions
The workshop will include a poster sessions at the end of each day. We are using a platform called gather.town, which aims to recreate the conference poster/networking experience in a virtual environment. Here are instructions on how to get the most out of this event.
1. Using Chrome or Firefox, click HERE to enter the space
2. Enter the password: floodforecasting
3. Confirm that you want to enter the space and approve gather.town use of your computer’s microphone and camera
4. Enter your name
5. You will see your name above your avatar, which you can use to move around the space using the arrow on your keyboard (can change the avatar’s character and appearance if you wish by clicking on your avatar at the bottom of your screen (see picture below) Your microphone and video will automatically start sharing if you move within close proximity of another attendee’s avatar If you wish to locate a specific individual, you can search for them in the search bar
6. On the platform, you can see and hear the people around your avatar. To initiate a private conversation, you can navigate to a “private space,” indicated by a rug. See photo above - these areas will trigger the dialogue, “you have entered a private space,” at the bottom of your screen.
7. The poster session is in the back of the room, look for “Poster Session” sign on the ground
8. For any questions check in at the Help Desk, located at the center of the room
