Why is Google hosting this event?

Google strives to cultivate inclusive programs and events around the globe. We believe a diversity of perspectives and ideas leads to better discussions, decisions, and outcomes for everyone. We also aim to support local tech communities and partners and help foster connection and innovation at Sandbox events and beyond. Google Sandbox is designed to highlight engineering life at Google through a closer look at our technology, culture, and engineering principles, with a focus on bringing together Googlers and historically underrepresented groups in tech to connect and collaborate. Google Sandbox features tech talks, access to Google engineers, and hands-on workshops. There will also be recruiters present to speak with anyone who might be interested in employment opportunities.

Is this a diversity event?

While the Sandbox series has a dedicated focus on engaging historically underrepresented groups in tech, the event and application are open to everyone with engineering and computer science-focused experience.

Where is this event being held?

Events for both evenings will be held at The Fremont Foundry. Exact location details will be sent in the confirmation email you'll receive prior to the event.

Is transportation to the event available?

You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from the events, but we will provide parking reimbursement and limited rideshare subsidies. Please note that this event is intended for participants local to the Seattle, WA metro area. Participants outside of that area may apply and attend but would be responsible for any travel and accommodation costs. 

What time does the program run?

Registration both evenings will begin at 5:30pm, allowing time for check-in, bites, and beverages. Program content will at ~9:00pm each night.

What if I can only attend one of the evenings?

We still welcome you to apply to the program! We prefer that each of our attendees attends both sessions, and will prioritize applicants who can attend both.

Can I bring a friend or attend on a walk-in basis?

You're welcome to have your friend or +1 apply to attend the event using the form during the open application period. Please note that we tend to reach capacity with pre-registered applicants for events. If you would like to bring a friend or +1 who hasn't applied, they will be accommodated on a space-available basis on the day of the event. Admission is not guaranteed for walk-ins.

What happens if I am waitlisted?

Applicants who are waitlisted will be confirmed admittance on a space-available basis and will receive instructions for attending via email. If you are waitlisted but not confirmed, you are not guaranteed a seat for the event(s).

I am a student, can I apply?

Yes! While this program is geared towards working professionals, we do like to admit some students to foster an environment of hands-on learning and mentorship.

Do I need to be a member of one of Google's partner organizations to apply for this program?

Absolutely not! We welcome anyone to apply!

When are applications due for this program and when will we be notified?

We will be accepting applications until Monday, July 24th. Every applicant will be notified of their application status on or before Tuesday, July 25th.

What equipment do I need to bring?

We ask that on Wednesday, all attendees bring their own laptop that can access the internet via WiFi and has the ability to download software and text files. We will have a small number of loaner laptops available for those that are unable to bring their own. Please indicate on your application if you are unable to bring your own laptop. We will send out any additional equipment details prior to the event. 

Should I plan to eat beforehand?

We will be providing heavy appetizers, beverages, and desserts on both evenings. 

What attire is recommended?

We are casual at Google, so please wear whatever you are most comfortable in. We find that many people dress in business casual for Google events.

How/when will I get my Child care reimbursement stipend?

After the event, your attendance will be confirmed, and we will send your name and email address to Plus Relocation, our reimbursement vendor (if you have concerns with us sharing your information with our external reimbursement vendor, please contact us at google-events-team@google.com. You can expect to hear from Plus Relocation about next steps within 7 business days following the summit. They will manage the disbursement of funds. Please Note: You will not receive your reimbursement at the event.

How do I unsubscribe from event invitations?

If you wish to no longer receive event invitations, please unsubscribe here by entering your email address and clicking "submit".
