Here’s what you should know about the Google's Tech Elevate program. For any other questions, please contact techelevate-emea@google.com. Be sure to include Google's Tech Elevate in the subject line.

We know it can be tricky to carve out time to focus on professional development. We want to help make it easier. Google’s Tech Elevate program is six-weeks and focuses on topics to support your career growth, both in your current role and your next. This program is virtual, meaning all sessions take place online and not in-person, so that it can better fit into your busy schedule.

View the full program agenda here. Google’s Tech Elevate program is designed to help you build skills that may be needed for your next career move. You can expect to learn more about how large companies like Google think about code, leading technologies that are in high demand on the job market, and learn from the experiences of Google engineers. While much of the program involves self study, there will be opportunities throughout the six weeks to virtually chat with Google engineers to get your questions answered. We will ask that you keep a journal throughout the program to help you track your progress against coursework and assignments, and at the end of the six weeks people who have completed the program will receive a certificate.

Google's Tech Elevate program will take place between May 25, 2020, and July 6, 2020.

Registrations are due by May 18, 2020. The capacity of the program is limited, so we encourage you to submit the assignment soon.

We will aim to notify all participants whether or not their registration was successful by May 20, 2020.

This program is for software engineering industry professionals (2+ years work experience) based in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa, who are interested in investing in their professional development. This program is registration-based, and the registration will include questions about your experience, interest in the program, as well as a short coding assignment.

To participate in the program, participants need to be able to read Python and code in either C++, Python, or Java.

Though open to everyone, the program has a dedicated focus on engaging people from communities and backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in the tech industry.

This is a virtual program, meaning that all trainings and resources will be available and accessed online. We will share links before each session via the learning platform Google Classroom. Participants will need reliable internet access to fully benefit from the program.

Once you’re accepted into the program, you’ll be invited to join our Google Classroom community. Google Classroom is an education platform where we will house all resources related to the program, from video trainings to self-study resources. Note that you’ll need a computer and internet connection in order to access Google Classroom and participate in Google’s Tech Elevate.

Mimir Classroom is a platform that makes it easy for developers to practice and develop their coding skills. We’ll release technical assignments for Google's Tech Elevate participants via Mimir throughout the program so that you can practice your skills and get feedback on your coding. You will be asked to register an account with Mimir if you don’t already have one.

There is no cost for program participants to use Mimir Classroom for coding assignments.

You should expect to spend two hours a week (minimum) on trainings and coursework related to the program. These two hours will consist of a weekly 1-hour video training, developed especially for Google’s Tech Elevate, and coursework / self study resources related to the topic of the week. If you’re especially interested in a topic, it’s possible you might want to spend additional time deep diving into the provided materials.

This course is designed by Google engineers and talent outreach teams.

While much of the six weeks will be self-study, throughout the program there will be opportunities for you to have your questions answered by Google engineers and to connect with other cohort members should you be interested.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with each other via our online learning platform, Google Classroom. We will also invite participants to join an optional working group if they’d like, so they can continue the discussion in smaller groups of three to four.

Video trainings will be released each week at a scheduled time. We encourage you to watch all videos, do homework assignments and ask questions on Google Classroom.

Content for this program will be customized for the cohort accepted into the program. Because of this, we ask that you don’t share links or resources from the program with others to ensure it reaches its intended audience.

This program will be conducted in English.

To participate in this program, participants need to be able to read Python and code in either C++, Python, or Java:

  • Some tech talks will use examples in Python.
  • Homework assignments must be completed in either Java, C++, or Python (participants can choose).

We acknowledge that people have different strengths and learning needs. If you feel confident with material covered in some talks and want to use the time to deep dive into other areas instead, that’s no problem. You are welcome to prioritize what you feel you need. We’d encourage you to take an active part in our virtual community to share your knowledge and support other participants by addressing questions and participating in discussions.

You have been nominated by a Googler who thinks you would be interested in our program.

We’d love for you to join us to learn and make connections. We understand everyone is on a different timeline and that career development is a long-term journey.
